Banjos, Shows and Sleep

I require a lot of sleep to function.  I’ve tried burning the midnight oil and getting 6-7 hours a night but it doesn’t cut it for me.  My body and mind work much better on 8-9 hours of rest. My red blood cells thank me as well.

I recently picked up a 1920s (I think) banjo in Athens, Ohio while at a family reunion.  I had a local luthier look it over and tell me all the work it needed, then opted to just get a general set up and new bridge/tailpiece added for now.  All of the other repairs will have to wait.  I’ve enjoyed fiddling around with it and making some noise.  I’m sure it will lead to some nice writing sessions once I dig in and see what is hiding in there.  I love the spirit of old instruments.

July 25 I’ll be at Foxfield for the Red Shack Pickers Sessions.  8pm in Columbia, SC.  Join us.

September I’ll be doing a songwriter session to promote the upcoming Ken Burns documentary on Country Music.  Stay tuned for more information on that one.

iPhone Bootleg

Here’s a recording from a recent Todd Mathis/Lesser Crimes gig.  Hope to get these guys in the studio soon to mess around on some tunes.

Hope y’all are well.

Spring 2019

Baseball, craft beer, travel, roses, kids, friends, a couple of shows.  That’s my start to Spring 2019.  I’m continuing my Monday night residency at High Fidelity Recordings, where I usually spend at least 2-3 hours recording something new.  Although I’ve had to miss a few Mondays the past few weeks I am still on track to have a new release done in the next few months.

I’ve also finished the music on 4 of my collaborations with Bentz Kirby at stepoutoftheline studios and Bentz will be in soon to do the vocals.  Look for a summer release of this one.

I put together a video of faster stereo recording in Nashville back in November to go along with the release of “What You Do To Me” a teenage Fanclub cover we recorded at Welcome to 1979.

The sun and warmth makes me more productive so I’ll keep chugging along.
