Last Full Band Show of 2017

Gearing up for the last show of 2017 with the full band.  Thanks to the Free Times for the kind words.  Be sure to head over to the bandcamp site to see the new releases.  Happy Fall.

Todd Mathis & His Only Friends Left — Perhaps the most exciting thing about the solo work of former American Gun singer Todd Mathis is that every solo release he’s put out is completely different from the others. The Columbia artist’s most recent release is a tender acoustic cover of Tom Petty’s “The Apartment Song.” Before that he put out two collections of ambient soundscapes and found-sound collages under the name Interruptions Of The Mind. And before that came Love in the City, a collection of ragged, infectiously catchy guitar rock. He’s a delightful musical crapshoot.

August

Had a great show with My Only Friends Left last Saturday at Foxfield in Columbia.  Noel, Randy and Andrew continue to amaze me with their interpretations of my songs.  It’s really a rocking band and I hope we get to play together in this configuration a lot more and make it to some bigger stages.

I’ll be playing a solo show at the Lowes Foods in Lexington, SC (across from the high school) on August 19 from 2-5.  I’ll do some originals with some classic country (Willie, Hank, Tom T. Hall) mixed in.  Grab a beer, listen and do your shopping all at the same time.

The new Interruptions of the Mind, Scene From Another… is finished and mastered.  Look for the release soon.  It’s 6 songs and clocks in around 20 minutes.  It’s perfect meditation and reflection music if I say so myself.

Tell someone how much they mean to you today.

May Showers

Now that the new album is out and into the world, I have to keep moving and working on things.  My current projects include a collaboration on some folky/protesty/angry lyrics with Ethan Fogus, a local tunesmith and recent thesis defender at the University of South Carolina, along with finishing up some tracks for an upcoming Interruptions of the Mind EP.  I was also instantly inspired by a recent NPR story from a border agent and wrote 5 instrumental pieces I’ve titled The Border that I’ll be working on over the Spring/Summer.

My next show will be a Waylon Jennings tribute night at the Main Street Public House on Thursday, June 15th.  I’ll be playing a few Waylon tunes along with Hardtack, Whiskey Tango Revue and many others.

Thanks to all that came out to the NBT show in Columbia with Cory Branan and thanks to the Free Times for the words on Love in the City.
